Blogging Ministries
I am curious. Do any of our readers or your churches use blogging as a way to build relationships with people in your community or for ministry type purposes? How are you using it and has it been effective? What I am looking for are blogs that teach about Scripture, communicate with unchurched people in a loving way, and share insights into following Christ…blogs whose obvious focus is on Jesus and not necessarily religion, politics, or book promotions.
If you know of some, would you please share their link or website address? I am looking for some great resources to pass along and also doing some “loose” research on the effectiveness of ministry blogs. Thanks!

I run a worship/youth blog that is ministry based and it has been so far :) beneficial to others in ministry.
I don’t know how “effective” our blog is per say - but I think our overall goal of church blog is pretty close to what you’ve suggested.

i guess the brackets hid my text - but in full disclosure - i also write for the encounter blog from time to time.
A friend of mine has this blog:

Our church runs 3 ministry related blogs. Mine (http://jasonthedce.wordpress.com) is Youth Ministry related with some personal stuff mixed in. My teammate’s (http://sweetsoup.wordpress.com) is for her area (Education Ministries). Both have been great for building community at church and useful for improving our ministries.
The third blog is for the sermons from our church (http://firsttrinity.wordpress.com). We just recently started it and are looking to bring discussion from our sermons to the blog. We’re still in the early stages of educating people that it exists, so it’s not as trafficked as our pages yet.
Thank you all to have shared so far!
I have been swamped today but I hope to look into these blogs more in-depth tonight or tomorrow and provide more thoughts.
@Klampert - I did have a few moments to check your blog out…wow! What a welcoming graphic! I try to say no to crack but I dig where you’re heading (or butting) with this. LOL.
I have the one I run (Mobile Ministry Magazine); but I think one that better illustrates your point is one that I designed for a friend to work in concert with his book and ministry (http://ongoodground.com).
ha ha…yes james…come by more often if you get time…
sorry I dont comment on yours…even though Ive been reading it forever and do every day…
It is def. a attention getting graphic…and people are starting to put it on thier own blogs…which is cool but odd. lol….

He uses it to further communicate with the church.
@ klampert - Thanks for the feedback and checking out my personal site. I do branding and design for churches full-time by the project or retainers. It’s been a blessing!
@ Susan - thanks for the resource!
Our church blog http://www.southwood.typepad.com is a ministry blog with the purpose of equipping people to grow in their faith.
We have a “hear it. use it.” category that tries to offer resources to people to connect Sunday’s sermon to daily living.
We are just finishing up a 28 part blog post on the book of Acts. Encouraging people to read and study the book.
Our blog has multiple authors from our church staff - occasionally we feature guest bloggers from the congregation.
LCC uses several blogs. We have some xanga sites that are protected for our board discussions and leader’s forums. Several ministry leaders run blogs to connect with their teams as well. My personal blog has been useful as a link from the church web site to help unchurched visitors get a feel for LCC. You can read it at http://www.xanga.com/revshortridge
@ Sara- thanks for the link. I think a blog that works through one book of the Bible systematically is cool.
@ Wes - I do think having a pastor and church leadership (as well as church members) is a very effective way for people to get a vibe for the people in the church and what they might expect.
All of you have giving me some great stuff to look over so far and I’ll post more thoughts soon.
