5 Questions with Collide Magazine’s Scott McClellan

I recently stumbled upon Collide Magazine, a new upstart that is “designed for church leaders and dedicated to exploring the use of visual media, music, technology, and the web to communicate God’s Truth.” It also has one rockin’ website, so I decided to email and see if anybody would respond to a Q&A … Scott McClellan did and here’s the question and answer …

1. Why did you (or your company) start the magazine?

Collide Magazine is the newest venture from the team behind Igniter Media Group and WorshipHouse Media. While we had been producing church media resources for a few years, we felt like a larger conversation should be taking place, and that a magazine like Collide would be a great avenue for that. We’re convinced that visual media, music, technology, and the web are crucial parts of communicating Truth to our culture, and so we couldn’t wait to start Collide.

2. What’s the goal of the magazine?

As I mentioned, we’re advocates of the role that media and technology can play in the church of the 21st century. The goal of Collide is to share ideas, strategies, and resources with creative 21st century church leaders whose goal is to share Christ with their communities. To accomplish that goal we will do everything from review resources, websites, and podcasts to interview innovative pastors and artists. We’ll examine media and technology trends in the church and culture, as well as share practical tips for enhancing the worship experience in the local church.

3. Who is the target audience? or who will find the magazine the most helpful?

The target audience consists of church leaders with a heart for their communities and cultures. We think senior pastors, teaching pastors, associate pastors, worship pastors, youth pastors, communications pastors, and everyone in between will benefit from Collide. They are all called to communicate Truth, and Collide hopes to help them toward that end. If you use video clips when you teach to illustrate the message, play a song for your small group to get them thinking, or are starting a blog to keep people informed of what your ministry is doing, Collide is for you.

4. Tell me about the first issue.

In the first issue, we’ll do our best to show you what Collide is all about. Our cover story is titled “Cutting to the Core: Finding the Metanarrative”, and focuses on the way in which God’s story permeates pop culture. Other feature articles include an introduction to Web 2.0 and the church, and the story of Vintage21 Church and their experience with viral video. We’ll also introduce you to our columnists and the features that will appear regularly in the pages of Collide.

5. Anything else you’d like to say?

One last thing: Everyone who subscribes to our magazine in the month of August will be entered to win an iPhone (I’d probably subscribe 10 times iI wasn’t ineligible). If $14.95 is too much for you to risk on a startup magazine, we’re also offering a free trial issue to anyone who wants one.
