Who is Acts 29? Let’s Ask Them
Acts 29 Director Scott Thomas has a post called 7 Misrepresentations of Acts 29.
I think No. 2 is especially relevant to some of the issues going on …
2. That we advocate alcohol use
The Acts 29 Network permits diversity on this secondary matter and pursues unity on the primary theological issues. We respect the right of Christians, organizations, and denominations to arrive at differing conclusions on this matter. So long as they are within the boundaries of Scripture, we respect those positions and welcome faithful Christians holding them into the Acts 29 Network. Together we can pursue what is most important-the expansion of God’s kingdom through the work of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the planting of His church.
He also links to a PDF document on Alcohol and Acts 29.
I’d go as far as saying that if you really want to give Acts 29 brothers and sisters a genuine, fair shake … you oughta at least read this post … straight from the guy in charge of the network.

8 Free Online Sessions with Ministry Marketing Coach Chris Forbes
Ministry Marketing Coach is one of my close friends and a church marketing mentor for me.
He’s made eight sessions of his coaching seminar available for free via Slide Share here.
Chris was the mastermind strategist behind the Across Oklahoma campaign that our state Baptist convention did for Easter this year. I’m hoping he’ll start blogging about it all … the behind-the-scenes details that made the campaign such an incredible success here in Oklahoma.
So if he doesn’t soon … bug him about it!!! I will!
InviteChurch.org: Interesting Campaign Encouraging Invite Someone to Church
I’ve seen these signs for Invite Church popping up in the area I live in … so of course I had to investigate it.
If you go to the site, you can search for a church via your zip code … and it gives you a Google Map to some area churches. Pretty neat!
You can get all kinds of resources for the interactive website, including biz cards, bumper stickers, larger yard signs and more.
When Your Pastor is Interviewed by the Press
Penelope, while preparing for her upcoming book press, has some excellent tips on how to prepare for a media blitz or interview, gleaned from her time with a media trainer …
Penelope says: “Knowing what answer you’re going to give way before you have to field a question.”
Her trainer said: “Don’t try to prepare for every possible question that could arise. Determine the 6-8 topics that are likely to come up during your interview …” and then:
“Hone a key message for each topic.”
“Identify anecdotes you can tell that illustrate each message.”
“Prepare specific examples or compelling data to prove your point.”
“Think of clever analogies if appropriate.”
See also her post on how to talk with the press.
Moral of the story … like a good Boy Scout … always be prepared.
4 Benefits of Using Facebook for College Ministry
My buddy Jeremy Stowe gives four features of using Facebook in college ministry.
I’ve got a profile on Facebook but have to admit … I haven’t gotten on and learned how to use it. Evidentally, a lot of people are using it as their ONLY source of web communications (crazy, I’m soooooo 90’s!).
I think if you encourage Jeremy enough … he might just write some more posts about college ministry using his signature dry sense of humor!
Acts 29, Missouri and The Emerging Church: Making Important Distinctions
There’s a growing conversation in the Missouri Baptist Convention about the Emerging Church and a church planting network called Acts 29 …
Let’s just start here with this news article as a primer …
Then go to my friend Dr. Mark DeVine’s site to download his response [PDF] on the previous article … about presenting this article [PDF] to a four-person Missouri Baptist Convention committee.
Dr. DeVine makes some sharp and excellent points in his op-ed piece … this is one of the reasons why two years ago I approached him to help him start his website — Theology Prof — and will continue to do so as long as he needs my assistance.
Dr. DeVine is bringing a healthy dose of both biblical discernment and grace to this conversation.
… and I sincerely hope my Southern Baptist brothers and sisters listen to what he has to say.
