Mars Hill Pastor Mark Driscoll’s Church, Gospel and Culture Audio

One of the best series of audio sermons/lectures I’ve heard on missional living is from Mars Hill Church’s Mark Driscoll called Church, Gospel and Culture from an Acts 29 Network boot camp.

Check out more Acts29 Boot Camp audio here … I’ve listened to probably over 15 hours of them in the past and they’re well worth the time.

Affordable Brochure or Website Copyrighting Services for Your Church

One of my seminary friends Ariel Vanderhorst is offering some excellent copywriting services for churches at excellent rates. (I don’t get any money from this … just the joy of helping a friend help churches.)

Check out his ballpark rates here.

He’s written for some great publications and is an awesome guy. Dependable, solid, trustworthy. In fact, I’m using Ariel right now to do some feature articles for our church newsletter.

If you’ve got some content you need written … from brochures, to websites and probably everything in between … Ariel’s your guy!

[Please note: No animals were harmed in the making of this testimonial … and no arms were twisted, rather mine was willingly offered without request to do this because I believe in Ariel’s work … I mean ministry.]

Who and What Is the Emerging Church from a Seminary Professor

My friend and seminary professor Dr. Mark DeVine has an excellent article which will soon be published in the Midwestern Journal of Theology on the emerging church.

Download the full article here (PDF).
See the post here.

From my conversations outside the seminary context, most people don’t have a clue about what or who the emerging church is. And often those who think they do, lump ALL “emerging” churches into one category … liberal. That’s not accurate. It’s a terrible generalization that throws out the good in the hard-to-define “movement.”

The Good Doc is seeking to help clarify all this in his article … and trust me, he’s a conversative, one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, and someone I’m fond of and help whenever I can (blogging).

(If you didn’t get this, I’ll say it in real simple terms so you don’t miss it: He’s love Jesus, affirms every jot and tittle of the Word, and does it all with a Southern drawwwwwwwwlllll.)

Rock on Doc!

Check Your Church’s Office Phone System Once in a While

Every once and a while you need to call yourself … meaning, the church office’s phone system … just to see if everything is accurate and up to date.

This morning I called our church office before office hours to let someone know I’d be in late because of a morning coffee meeting.

What I heard impressed me … our message was great and I must say I was surprised. (Hey, and I didn’t have anything to do with it!)

Here’s what I heard …

  • Pleasant and sweet voice who spoke slow enough to write everything down
  • Sunday worship times with details on the different services (Contemporary, Traditional)
  • Sunday School small group times
  • Emergency contact information (I love it because she also said, “In a moment, I’ll give you that number.” So the hearers have time to grab a piece of paper.)
  • Our separate numbers for our recreation center, preschool and food pantry/careline.

Some Enlightening Internet Video Statistics: YouTube

One of my favorite blogs to read is Startup-Review, a case studies blog profiling Web 2.0 companies like MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube and highlight how they got to their elite status.

In their most recent case study, they profile YouTube … and give some statistics on YouTube’s place in the Internet video market … pretty interesting, so I thought I’d share:

  • Fastest growing website in Internet history
  • On average 100 million videos streamed per day
  • 65,000 new video clips are uploaded every day
  • More than 13 million unique visitors per month. An average user spends 30 minutes on YouTube and most uploaders are repeat visitors themselves.
  • 58% of Internet videos are watched on YouTube
  • 20% to 30% of traffic volume is from the US
  • Wide range of user demographics, however the largest segment of users is the 18 to 35 year-olds.
  • 30% to 40% of the content is copyrighted. There is a clear correlation between eyeballs and copyrighted content.
