Rockin’ Cool Church Website Using WordPress
Micah sent me this link to Grace Evangelical Free Church, located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
It’s not only a Rockin’ Cool Church Website, but they are using WordPress to run it!
This site is an excellent example of how WordPress can be used as a content management system and a live illustration of the Using WordPress to Run Church Websites series. If you didn’t open the hood of the site (look at the source code), you probably wouldn’t guess it’s a WordPress site.
The one thing I’d suggest to them is using a different permalink structure. Right now, it’s the default, which I always change. I’ve read, been told and found that this helps with search engine findings. I’ll expand on this in a later post when I talk about the tweaks I usually do after installing it.
(If you just can’t wait, check out these sites I’ve helped with and look at their post URLs: Jeff’s Image Forth, Dr. Mark DeVine’s Theology Prof, and the Christian Book Lounge.)
For now, go check out this rockin’ site.

Strange… When I checked out the site earlier today, it wasn’t using the default permalink structure. It had named categories, etc, in the URLs. Now, it’s using the ?page_id= stuff. Strange. Maybe they’re testing…?
I dislike the default link structure too. I like something that makes sense when you look at it. Something with archive and a number, or a category name. The default setting looks like some artificially generated spam link.
Gents.. Thanks so much for the commenting and for the post. We are testing and tweaking.. The site currently has a few hundred visitors daily and we’re looking to integrate a full intranet. Thanks again - the permalinks stuff is in flux but I couldn’t agree with you more on switching from the default setting
