Upgrading to WordPress 2.1 Is Easy
Some of you have asked about upgrading to WordPress 2.1 “Ella.”
I hate to totally ruin the moment BUT …
IT’S INCREDIBLY EASY! I think it took me about 10 minutes.
Here’s the upgrade information straight from WordPress and … yes, it’s simple.
But frankly, I was scared to death.
I’ve been backing up my blog for sometime using this great plugin.
For the upgrade and because it was my first time doing an upgrade, I had the backup emailed to me and also downloaded it to my desktop. Then I downloaded my WP blog folders via FTP and copied it to another folder altogether. (Yeah, can you tell I’m not a tech guy and paranoid to lose 7 months of work?!)
You should use the WordPress documentation for the upgrade, but it goes like this: Backup your database (use that plugin), Deactivate all your plugins, Delete certain old files and upload new ones, “Run the “upgrade script (http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php)” and Reactive your plugins.
