The ‘Start Here’ Page for Your Rockin’ Website

I’ve been reading Steve Krug’s excellent book Don’t Make Me Think over the holiday break … and one of the takeaways I’m implementing here and my other sites is a “Start Here” page.

Actually, for CCP, I’ve put a modified version of it in my right sidebar.

Here’s what I’m including:

New to CCP? Start Here

1. Subscribe to CCP Email Newsletter & Get Free Reports 2. Search CCP for the Topics You’re Looking For 3. Check Out Some of the Most Popular Posts 4. Read the Building Rockin’ Cool Church Websites & Blogging 101 series

See also the Start Here page I’ve included on my new Free Marketing Ideas Blog site.

According to Steve based on his usability research, these type of pages and information are key to helping new site guests find your stuff. So, I’ve designed these pages or new features to help guide people to the content that supports my site goals.

Seems like most churches implement this with some sort of “New to ___ Church?” link/page on their site. (Ours doesn’t have one.)

BTW, your Start Here page on The Napkin recommends browsing the categories that are supposedly listed in the sidebar… but none are. Did you, perhaps, change your theme after writing that page?
