5 Church Marketing Books to Read in 2007

OK, so you may know I’m a book junkie. I even started a book reviews blog to give me an outlet for my addiction. But thinking about the end of the 2006 and all of 2007, I thought I’d give you some books that can be read and applied (with a healthy dose of biblical discernment) for marketing your church — aka church marketing.

Here are 5 books I’d suggest any pastor or minister reading as a primer for planning their marketing, branding and advertising in their church:

  1. Purple Cow: Transform Your Business By Being Remarkable
  2. The Anatomy of Buzz
  3. The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding
  4. Buzz Marketing with Blogs … for Dummies
  5. Guerrilla Publicity: Hundreds of Sure-Fire Tactics to Get Maximum Sales for Minimum Dollars

And since I’m a bookworm, I thought I’d let you know what books have caught my eye (Note to book publishers: If you’re interested in sending me books, send me an email for my address and make my New Year!)

Here’s 5 books I want to read in 2007:

  1. The Story Factor - Darren’s recommendation, a book about storytelling and identifiying six core stories you need to be able to tell: “Who Am I,” “Why I Am Here,” “The Vision,” “Teaching,” “Values in Action,” and “I Know What You Are Thinking.”
  2. 1,000 Most Important Words - Good communicators want to get better. I’m not there yet and want to get better … this book bills itself as helping you “enrich your vocabulary.” Another of Darren’s recommendation.
  3. The Blogging Church - The long-awaited book will be out. I’m hoping someone will send me a gratis copy!
  4. Tribal Knowledge: Business Wisdom from Starbucks - I’m captivated by Starbucks. I love a venti Cafe Americano, no room, two pink packets. More than that, I’m intrigued by how the atmosphere they have created. By the way, think about where you wait for your drink … you
  5. On Writing Well – I’ve read it a couple of times, but it’s one I need to reread every year. Excellent writing, excellent reading.
