Blogging Tip: Tell Readers How Often You Post to Encourage Regular Return Visits
One takeaway I’ve gotten as I’ve frequented Tim Challies rockin’ blog is that by notifying your readers of your posting schedule, you give them a reason to return on a more regular basis.
For instance, as of today, Tim has blogged an astouding 1,129 days according to his site. Read a little more about him (or just put two and two together) and you’ll know he posts something at least once a day.
Personally, if I know new, fresh content will be posted, I’m more likely to go back. This comes in handy for me in particular on weekends, which are notoriously light days for both reading and writing on blogs.
But I still like to surf for new content … and whenever I can’t find any … I know Tim’s got some morsel on his site because he’s like the Cal Ripken of blogging!
Oh, just one more takeaway from Tim though … I love this post about his “King of the Week” feature, where he promotes another blog he likes for a week. I love that. Tim is a big-time blogger with a massive readership, but he’s still helping to promote others.
[Tim, I appreciate that about you, bro!]
One of the irritations I’ve had with some bloggers (not to be named) is snootiness. (Read: A nice way to say, “Arrogance.”) I know it takes time to develop a readership and you want to protect that readership. But there’s a fine line between protecting your readers by good content filtering and just being selfish about it.
That’s one of the reasons I try to help promote the work of others here, even if they’re blogging about similar topics as me, like Chris at Ministry Marketing Coach and James at New Church Marketing.
The only reasons I would give for not promoting others are blatant selfish or unclear motives and heresy. I won’t promote those blogs here or link to them. (Maybe there are a few other reasons too, but those are the main ones.)
But for those who love Christ, are just starting out, want to make a contribution to the Kingdom, and need a handy “look at this guy or gal” … I’m glad to help … however minimal my contribution is!

Great tip…know how he did it? is there a site that tracks it…and it was days in a row.

I just have a little PHP script (and count up script) that increments every day. If I ever skip a day I’ll just have to reset it.
