Choosing a Church Webmaster aka Webminister

A church webmaster is obviously responsible for maintaining and updating the Web site on a regular basis. But this person is also the gatekeeper for your church web site.

A qualified church site webmaster should:

  • Have the dedication and time to keep the site maintained
  • Have the basic Web site experience and skills
  • Be trustworthy and dependable
  • Look upon the role as a ministry to the Lord through the church

For this reason, I would consider the role of your church’s webmaster as a “web minister.”

The person responsible for keeping your site up to date should approach this as a ministry – a service both to your congregation as well as potential guests and your community.

Choose him/her wisely.

I agree completely! This position requires someone with a heart for ministry, not your “run of the mill” webmaster. In my humble opinion, someone who is not a Christian with a heart for ministry should never be chosen to build and maintain a church website no matter how good their skills are.

    Be blessed!

    Hi everybody,

I really like this article. I’m the webmaster of Temple de Paris. I would like to know all the arguments possible to make understand this point of view to brothers and sisters, people in charge of the church.
I work on the version 3 of the site which would be more ergonomic and with more functions… And it is there that the argument is important with the people in charge. What do you advise me?

For information, I do not use WordPress but SPIP (http://www.spip.net/) who its French equivalent.

    Be blessed
