5 Blogging Questions with Mad Babble of a Church Planter's Gary Lamb

As part of the "Blogging 101 for Pastors" series [click here to see all the posts], I've been asking several proflic blogging pastors or believers to answer five basic questions about blogging.

Church planter, pastor, blogger Gary Lamb who blogs at Mad Babble of a Church Planter is the next to answer the 5 Blogging Questions.

From his bio page, Lamb is the "lead pastor of Ridge Stone Church in Canton, Ga. Started on Aug. 15, 2004, RSC has quickly become known for it's passion for innovation, creativity, and reaching those who are disconnected from church. In it's two years of existence, RSC has grown from 6 families to over 500 people in weekly attendance." Here goes:

1. Why (or how) did you start blogging?

I started blogging after several friends started doing it. I have always enjoyed writing and when I started doing it, I was hooked. I also thought it was a awesome way to look back over the life of starting Ridge Stone Church and remembering what we were doing at a certain time. It is basically a journal of the church plant God allowed us to plant.

2. What subject do you post most about?

When I first started blogging I posted about church planting and about planting RSC. That was pretty much my focus for two years. As our church has grown our entire staff started a blog called Ridge Stone Backstage (www.ridgestonebackstage.com) which now talks about the behind-the-scene aspect of RSC and it is geared toward church planters. So actually in the last week I have been transitioning my personal blog from a blog geared toward church planters to a blog where I can communicate with my church and let them know what is happening in my life and cast vision for our church.

3. What are your favorite blog tools?

I am a computer idiot. The only tool I use is Bloglines and I can't figure it out half the time.

4. How often do you post?

Probably averages out to 2 or 3 times a day.

5. What one piece of advice would you give for prospective blogging pastors?

Be yourself BUT remember that your blog is public. The people you pastor can see it, the other pastors in town can see it, and the unchurched in your area can see it. Remember the written word can be misunderstood and be very aware that people you don't know are reading it. Just watch the way you word stuff and make sure what you say is what you want others to see. Very few people read your personal journal but everyone can read your blog.

[[ GOOD ADVICE! THANKS, GARY, FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE! GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR CHURCH MINISTRY! ]]
