5 Blogging Questions with Kent Shaffer of Church Relevance

As part of the "Blogging 101 for Pastors" series [click here to see all the posts], I've been asking several proflic blogging pastors or believers to answer five basic questions about blogging.

Next we have Kent Shaffer of ChurchRelevance.com. Kent lives just up the road from me in Broken Arrow, Okla., where I also lived at one time. He is the owner of Bombay Creative and does some amazingly-creative work for ministries and church, in addition to being a prolific blogger at CR. Here's his answers:

1. Why (or how) did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I saw a need for a free resource to help train ministries how to be more relevant and effective.

2. What subject do you post most about?

I blog about a wide scope of topics including design, management, marketing, ministry techniques, research, and technology. These are the areas that I believe offer already biblically sound ministries the most opportunity to maximize their impact on the world.

3. What are your favorite blog tools?

I like WordPress, Netvibes, Technorati, StatCounter, FeedBurner, and Photoshop. But the most valuable asset to ChurchRelevance.com is the team of web developers from Bombay Creative who manipulate the WordPress code and custom develop tools when needed.

4. How often do you post?

I try to post 5-10 times a week.

5. What one piece of advice would you give for prospective blogging pastors?

Unless you are blogging for personal reasons, focus on optimizing the reader experience. Offer only quality content. Use as few words possible without compromising quality (any needless words have just wasted someone’s time).
