CCP Links for 10-21 & 22
Here are today’s links:
A FREE KIND OF PHOTOSHOP CALLED ‘PAINT’ — According to TechCrunch it “handles most of the basic (and many of the advanced) functions of Photoshop. It’s free, and even better it loads in just a couple of seconds on a newish Windows PC.”
25 BEST FREE QUALITY FONTS — Did you see the word “free” there? I think I previously mentioned this Movie Theme Fonts site too … a youth minister’s dream come true! (via LH)
ONE INCREDIBLE TUTORIAL FOR CREATING WEB SITES — Wow, I wish I had seen this site before I redesigned my church’s Web site. Help for anyone looking at redesigning/designing a Web site. [My related posts on: 50-Plus Sites to Get Inspired for Your Redesign and 20 Lessons I Learned from My Church’s Web Site Redesign]
EAT AT THE ICON BUFFET — I’m still in shock … this incredible site is giving away free icons. And they aren’t of the stale, boring clip art, junk variety … see the icon on this post. This is a giveaway site of FireWheel Design and I would say, a great way to market yourself. [See the series I did on giving booklets away to church guests.]
PREVENTING BLOGGING BURNOUT — The subhead reads: “Write about things you love, avoid the fate of bloggers who sputter out.” There’s some good advice in this article. I’ve written about passion as the fuel for blogs here for the Blogging 101 for Pastors series. And I will be writing one soon on Blog Addiction, Blog Insominia, and Blog Fasting, which Tall Skinny did recently.
WHY ARE PEOPLE LEAVING THE CHURCH? — LifeWay survey of formerly churched.
4 NEW BOOKS ON MY DESK (or scattered throughout my house):
- In a Pit on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson
— Thanks, Mark! I already enjoy your writing style! Look for an update on TheaterChurch.com’s redesign coming soon!
- Creative Leader by Ed Young
— My mouth waters thinking about finishing this book and gleaning some practical help … and then sharing it with you all in a future post
- Simple Church
— Dr. Thom Rainer’s influence at LifeWay is already felt with LifeWay Research Division (see above link on the formerly churched survey)
- Planting Missional Churches
— Dr. Ed Stetzer of NAMB and NewChurches.com, if you’re listening … I want to meet you! :-)
[ Sidenote: If you plan to buy one of these books, please help support this site by buying through one of the above affiliate links. It doesn’t add any cost to you, but I get 4-5%. :-) ]
I WILL BLOG FOR BOOKS! — I’m a book junkie. Attention: Book publishers and authors, email me and I’ll send you my address.
THE ULTIMATE BOOK ON WRITING … while I’m talking about books, one classic book on writing that I reread periodically and should have memorized … a true example of writing .. in fact, I want to write like him … every pastor should have a copy of this book — On Writing Well by William Zinsser
BLOGGING 101 FOR PASTORS SERIES UPDATE … As you know if you’ve been around here long, I’ve been spending the past month doing a series to help pastors blog — with maximum impact and minimal effort. I’ve almost exhausted what I have for the basics on blogging (yet did I really?) … and I am now going to push through and start giving more intermediate steps.
Here’s what’s coming up, or swirling in my peanut brain:
- Blog statistics — Tracking your site guests and what they’re reading
- Building a blogging contact list
- Goals and strategies for blogging pastors
- Domains names versus free hosting solutions (like BlogSpot and WordPress)
- How to promote your blog — offline and online
- Essential blogging tools
- On widgets, gadgets and gizmos — Bells and whistles that add function to your site
- Earning a little dough by offering books/reading lists through Amazon’s Associates program
- An easy way to show what you’re bookmarking online
- A recommended reading list for blogging pastors
THREE SEMINARY PROFS — Did I mention we have three Southern Baptist seminary professors coming up in the 5Qs lineup? Southern’s Dr. Herschel York, Southeastern’s Dr. Alvin Reid and the one and only Midwestern theology prof Dr. Mark DeVine.
BIG BAPTIST THANK YOUS — And sometime soon, when the dust settles on the 101 series … I’ll be asking all of you to help me give a BIG thank you for all the bloggers who participated in the 5 Blogging Questions. I’m hoping to return the favor for taking the time to answer by getting you, dear reader, to bookmark them delciously, digg their posts, favoriti their Technorati and more …
Enough already … I need to watch Over the Hedge with my wife.
