5 Blogging Questions with Marty Duren, SBC Outpost

By Cory Miller

As part of the “Blogging 101 for Pastors” series [click here to see all the posts], I’ve been asking several proflic blogging pastors or believers to answer five basic questions about blogging.

Marty Duren of SBC Outpost answers my 5 Blogging Questions today. In Southern Baptist life, there is a growing group of bloggers who are helping give young leaders a voice for what the Southern Baptist Convention “looks like” in the future.

1. Why or how did I start blogging?

To join the growing conversation within the Southern Baptist Convention relating to its future with a focus on involving younger leaders. This focus eventually changed to embrace broader areas of concern.

2. What subject do I post most about?

Any kind of issue of interest to Southern Baptists from the “politics” of the convention to critical analysis to ministry application discussions.

3. What are my favorite blog tools?

Honestly, I’m so tech inept that I basically know how to write a post and publish it. I haven’t even learned how to embed video. I guess that makes me the Fred Flintstone of bloggers.

4. How often do I post?

Normally 2-3 times a week; during a busy “news” season, maybe 4.

5. What one piece of advice would I give to prospective blogging pastors?

Know what you would like to accomplish, pace yourself and write about what you enjoy.
