5 Questions with Blogging Pastor Mark Batterson
As part of the “Blogging 101 for Pastors” series [click here to see all the posts], I’ve been asking several proflic blogging pastors or believers to answer five basic questions about blogging.
The first to respond was TheaterChurch.com’s Mark Batterson, who blogs at Evotional.com. Mark just released a book titled “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day: How to Survive and Thrive When Opportunity Roars.”

Here’s the questions and Mark’s answers:
1. Why (or how) did you start blogging?
I’ve always kept a journal so blogging was a very natural next step for me. Blogging is the way I keep track of what God is doing in my head and my heart. I also think it’s good stewardship. I want to share the things God is teaching me. One other huge blogging bonus: I feel like my blog keeps me accessible to our congregation as National Community Church grows larger and larger. It’s digital discipleship.
2. What subject do you post most about?
My blog is a combination of “life updates” and “thoughts about leadership.” I like the combination of personal and professional. I also tend to blog about my passions, one of which is: the church ought to be the most creative place on the planet, so I have lots of posts on creativity.
3. What are your favorite blog tools?
I’m a peanut butter and jelly guy. I just post lots of blogs. Not too many tools in my belt.
4. How often do you post?
I tend to post several times per day. I blog a little less on my day off and weekends.
5. What one piece of advice would you give for prospective blogging pastors?
Be yourself. I think your blog should be an extension of your personality. Keep it real.
