Rush Creek Asks People to Google God Questions

By Cory Miller

I stumbled upon a neat church outreach site on Digg recently titled GoogleGod.org and followed the link to the church behind it — The Church on Rush Creek, located in Arlington, Texas. Their communications pastor, Jim Campbell, was gracious enough to send me some information about this neat outreach/promotional site for an upcoming sermon series.

[ See the GoogleGod commercial on YouTube here ]

According to Campbell, the site’s purpose is to “find the most asked questions by people outside our church and to attempt to give them a biblically true answer. We can’t answer them all, so we are taking the top four topics and creating a series around those answers.”

Site guests can enter questions for the sermon series — scheduled for Oct. 15 through Nov. 12 — and so far, Campbell said, they have received 1,300.

Those who register (300 to date) can also receive a free CD from the series once it’s finished — an excellent way to leverage the promotional momentum from the site and further introduce people to their church.

The site went live on Sept. 15 and was designed by Bill Jones. Campbell wrote me that a local TV station has done a news report on it and they’ve put together a 30-second spot to help advertise it, which they’ve also placed on YouTube.

SIDEBAR: Finding GoogleGod.org comes at an interesting time for me. Just today, I had the privilege of interviewing Granger’s Mark Beeson and Tim Stevens, creators of MyLameSexLife.com, as well as pastor Chris Cancilini of Hope Christian Church, who launched MyMarriageSucks.info, for an upcoming story I’m doing for Pastors.com about churches using Web sites for promotional purposes. Needless to say, I was extremely blessed by my time on the phone with them and can’t wait to share the story with you. In the meantime, let me say this … I’m excited to know how God is using pastors and churches who want to use the Internet for ministry!

ONE MORE ASIDE: Rush Creek uses Andy Stanley’s booklet “How Good Is Good Enough” as a great church guest giveaway [see their online form here] … if you forgot, I did a four-post series on this a while back. Read posts 1, 2, 3, 4 here.
