Baptist Press: The Standard in Online Denominational News
Call me biased … I am and frankly, don’t care.
Baptist Press, the denominational news service for the Southern Baptist Convention, is celebrating 60 years in religious journalism. [Here is the story, timeline]
I’ve had the privilege to work with and write for this news service. As a former newspaper journalist, I have great respect for vice president Will Hall, editor Art Toalston and Michael Foust and the others who support and write for BP that I don’t know.
They are some of the best I’ve ever worked with and I’m blessed to call them “friends” and “colleagues.”
As communications director for Midwestern Seminary, I was considered a type of “bureau reporter” for the service. They consistently called me to greater excellence on everything I did. They would not accept second or third best and my work and the Kingdom (as expressed through Southern Baptists) benefited from it.
They have an incredibly difficult job to perform … they must balance both journalistic objectivity/fairness/quality with the political pressures that will accompany anything that man is involved in. They do this with immense class and mature godliness.
My hat’s off to you BP! Keep setting the standard for us!
