A Must Read on Writing

One of the best books on writing I’ve ever read is William Zinsser’s “On Writing Well”– now in a 30th anniversary edition.

Zinsser is a true writer’s coach, helping you to write clear, concise sentences that communicate effectively. I’ve read his book a number of times and went back to specific chapters to sharpen my memory on his advice.

Some specific chapters worth noting include:

  • Simplicity
  • Clutter
  • Style
  • The Audience
  • Unity
  • Bits & Pieces
  • Writing About People: The Interview
  • Writing about Places: The Travel Article
  • Writing About Yourself: The Memoir
  • The Sound of Your Voice
  • The Tyranny of the Final Product

Zinsser writes what he preaches. Throughout the book, you’ll see examples of “writing well” that will do nothing but make you better.

For less than $11, this resource is excellent for pastors seeking to better communicate through writing.

      Corey,

Here’s another must read for anyone who plans to write and publish a book–particularly if they are looking for a traditional publisher: Book Proposals That Sell

I know it appears a bit self-serving since I wrote this book but I’ve seen the results of people using the book and the over 50 five star reviews on Amazon. It’s making a difference and I’m glad to have a small role in helping people understand what publishers need to issue a book contract.

This is an amazing book. I’ve read it twice.
